“Genetic forms of Parkinson’s make up about 8 percent of the people who receive a Parkinson’s diagnosis,” said the deputy research director at Parkinson’s, David Dexter.

Osbourne was affected by a gene called Park 2, which is also known as PRKN-2. If the gene is mutated, it is the most common cause of early Parkinson’s disease. A rare recessive form of the disease can be caused by this mutation.
