A group of leading universities and research organizations was selected to deliver a government fund of £ 54 million in order to recruit worldwide leading researchers to Great Britain.
The Global Talent Fund, which is managed by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), aims to attract up to 80 researchers in sectors with a high priority such as biosciences and digital technologies.
Twelve universities and research institutions throughout the UK have granted the same share in the fund to bring some of the world’s leading researchers and their teams to Great Britain.
The selected institutions are: University of Bath; Queen’s University Belfast; University of Birmingham; University of Cambridge; Cardiff University; Imperial College London; University of Oxford; University of Southampton; University of Strathclyde; University of Warwick; John Innes Center and MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology.
The five -year government fund, which begins in 2025/26, will cover all the legitimate costs without the financing of research organizations.
The visa and relocation costs for researchers and their family members are covered by the fund.
The Minister of Science Lord Vallance said: “Genius is not bound to geography. But Great Britain is one of the few places that are blessed with the infrastructure, the basis of qualifications, world-class institutions and international ties to incubate brilliant ideas and to transform them into new medication, save lives, new products that make our lives easier, and even completely new jobs and industry.
“Britain will be decisive here in Great Britain to maintain the change plan of this government.
“My message to the brave and bravery, which drive new ideas forward, wherever they are: our doors are open to them.
“We want to work with them, support them and give them a home in which they make their ideas a reality, from which we all benefit.”
