TWhere Meteor showers will reach your peak visibility on Tuesday evening and illuminate the sky in bright stripes in the next morning.
The Southern Delta Aquariids and the Alpha Capricornids will only be active until August 12th. Tonight is a particularly good time to look at the starry sky and catch them, since the moon will only be 27% full, which increases visibility for the showers.
The cosmic phenomena are forerunners of the Perseid shower, which, according to NASA, applies to the “best meteor shower of the year”. This shower will reach its peak in just a few weeks, although its visibility can be influenced by the moon.
Meteor showers are caused by the entrance of cosmic debris to the earth’s atmosphere at increased speeds. You are best viewed in a clear night.
Here is what to know.
What are the Southern Delta Aquariide and Alpha Capricornids?
The Southern Delta Aquariides are a meteor showman that will usually be active for a few weeks from mid -July. According to the American Meteor Society (AMS), the shower moves at a speed of 25 miles per second and is best seen by the other south.
As a rule, they are difficult to recognize due to their weak light, reports NASA and most when the moon is not off.
The Alpha Capricornids are not particularly strong shower and rarely have more than 5 meteors per hour. However, they are remarkable because those who are visible often have bright fire balls. “If you are looking for a spectacular event during a clock session, an Alpha -Capricornide may be the one who has excited you the most” NPR.
This shower is well seen by those on both sides of the equator, according to the American Meteor Society (AMS). It also travels slower and sails through the sky at a speed of 14 miles per second.
When and where can you best see them?
According to AMS, the best way to see them after midnight after midnight is made after midnight, since the darker night makes it easier to recognize them. This means that the moon summit also affects visibility: if the moon is illuminated more than half when Meteor showers reached its climax, they will be difficult to observe. The audience should also move away from the big city to avoid pollution and other light sources that affect their view.
The Southern Delta Aquariides are best seen in the early morning, reports AMS.
The organization says that showers are best about 30 degrees from their radiation – the point at which meteors seem. The radiant point of the Southern Delta Aquariide is within the Aquarius constellation, while the Alpha -Capricornids are in the Capricornus constellation. Both are in the southern part of the sky, which means that those who want to see the showers should switch to this area in a place with a unhindered view.
Those who miss the two meteor showers can still try to watch the Perseids shower, which will reach their peak from August 12th to 13th.
