The long and winding road of a NASA Mars mission to the start pad approaches its end.

The Mars probes of the Twin Escapade (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers) were planned last October on the first flight of Blue Origins.

But NASA took the two spaceships from this flight in September, whereby the possibility of a cost -lound start of the start was managed. This delay actually came over; New Glenn debut a trial version of Blue Origins Blue Ring SpaceCRAFT platform into the earth orbit on January 15. The company aimed at landing the first stage of New Glenn on a ship at sea, but failed in the attempt.

Meanwhile, the escapade mission continued without a public start date.

But that has now been cleared. On Thursday (July 17th), Blue Origin announced that Eskapade will start the second flight from New Glenn, which will not be targeted earlier than August 15 from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

That was originally planned later than the company; Blue Origin had observed the late spring for the flight known as the NG-2, but pushed back last month.

“This will be an exciting mission for the new exploration of Glenn and Mars. Escapade is not only the first interplanetary mission of New Glenn, but also the first multi-spacecraft orbital mission to study the Mars magnetosphere. And we hope that we can land and restore our booster.

Escapade will not be the only payload that flies to NG-2. According to Blue Origin, the 98 meter tall Glenn with 320 feet (98 meters) will also lead a technological demonstration for the satellite communication company Viasat.

The two escapade probes were built by Rocket Lab based in California. They are known as Blue and Gold, the colors of the University of California, Berkeley, whose space science laboratory will manage the 80 million dollar mission for NASA.

This mission “will analyze how Mars’ magnetic field particles flows around the planet, how energy and impulse are transported from the sun wind by the magnetosphere and which processes control the flow of energy and material in and out of the Mars’s atmosphere”, NASA wrote in a description of the escapade.

“The observations will show the response of the planet to space weather and the change in the Marsmagian magnetosphere over time,” they added.
