Trainer Erasmus calls up time with Mass Springbok experiments

South African head coach Rassie Erasmus says that Mass will name springbok experiments on Tuesday a 36-man squad for two rugby championship tests against Australia in August.

“The majority of this squad will be experienced players who are suitable for the way we want to play while there will be space for one or two boys with whom we want to experiment,” he told reporters.

“We wanted to experiment against the barbarians, Italy and Georgia in building games, and the scor lines we achieved were quite satisfactory.

“We used 46 players and gave a number of players first caps. There are others who want to give opportunities to like Jaden and Jordan (Hendriks), Quan (Horn) and Renzo (Du Plessis).

“But the rugby championship is definitely a step high, starting with the wallabies in Johannesburg and Cape Town on consecutive Saturdays in the next month.”

South Africa defend the rugby championship title and play in New Zealand twice in New Zealand, then home and home in Argentina, the latter game moving from South America to London.

In November, the four-time Rugby World Cup winners compete with a discouraging European tour, including France in Paris and Ireland in Dublin.

Erasmus, a key figure in various coaching roles in the triumph of the 2019 and 2023 World Cup, also reflected the build-up games for the championship of the Southern Hemisphere.

“We are pretty happy when you look at the four games,” he said, remembering victories over the Barbarians (54-7), Italy (42-24 and 45-0) and this weekend Georgia (55-10).

Every test was preceded by many personnel changes on Matchday 23 – 10 and 15 for the caps against Italy and 16 for Georgia.

“Georgia were physical and annoying, but that is not an excuse for so many mistakes. If we hack and change the rhythm during the construction of the squad depth.

“We found rhythm in the last 20 minutes and although the goal line was impressive, we can always do it better.”

The coach said that Fly-Half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who missed four out of five conversion attempts, injured his hip heat for the match.

“Sacha wanted to play, but this is not an excuse for the way he did the Poles. However, he is certainly none of the boys who made the most mistakes.”

When Feinberg-Mngomezulu was replaced after 54 minutes, replacement hand poles with all four conversion kicks succeeded and made an attempt.
