The United States has again closed its southern border to cattle imports and explained that a carnivting parasite had moved further north in Mexico than previously reported.
The Mexican President was of crucial importance on Thursday, which indicates that the United States exaggerated the threat to the beef industry by the parasite, the new world screw -up fly. The female flies laid eggs in wounds on warm -flowered animals and hatched larvae, which are unusual under flying to feed on living meat and liquids instead of dead materials.
American civil servants fear that when the fly reaches Texas, its carnivorous maggots could lead to great economic losses, which happened decades ago. The United States largely eradicated the pest in the 1970s by breeding sterile male flying and with wild females, and the fly had been held in Panama for years until it was discovered in Süd -Mexico at the end of last year.
The United States closed its southern border in May at imports of living cattle, horses and bison, announced on June 30 that three entrance ports would open until September 15th. That was about 595 kilometers from the Texas border.
“The United States have promised to be vigilant,” said Brooke Rollins, secretary of the US Agriculture Ministry, on Wednesday in a statement in which the border completion was announced. “Thanks to the aggressive monitoring of the USDA employee in the USA and Mexico, we were able to take quick and decisive measures to react to the spread of this fatal pest.”
In Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum said the authorities there according to all established protocols to deal with the northernmost case. The Mexican authorities stated that the country has 392 infected animals that have dropped by almost 19% since June 24th.
“From our point of view, you have made a completely exaggerated decision to close the border again,” said Sheinbaum. “Everything that should be done scientifically is done.”
Three weeks ago, Rollins announced plans to combat the parasite, which spent almost 30 million US dollars for new locations for breeding and spreading sterile male flies. Once in the wild, these men would mate with women, which caused them to lay eggs that did not slip so that the fly population would die out.
The USDA hopes that a new Fly factory will be in operation in South Mexico by July 2026 to supplement fly breeding in an existing complex in Panama. The agency also plans to open a location in South Texas to keep sterile flies out of Panama so that they can be released along the border if necessary.
Also on Thursday, the US representatives of the US representatives of Texas and Kat McCammack from Florida asked the Trump administration to quickly approve the use of existing anti-parasite treatments for the New World Screwworm Fly Fly Fly Flying. They said that the labeling requirements are currently preventing this.
