The mayor’s highly expected hot air balloon regatta was canceled a sixth year in a row due to weather concerns at the last minute.

The event was planned for May 11, July 20 and July 27 as part of the mayor’s show celebrations.

However, the wind direction and speed were held responsible for the cancellation of the regatta, which could have seen up to 60 balloons in heaven over the capital.

The event last took place in 2019 when 46 hot air air balloons from Battersea Park, Wandsworth, were launched.

It was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic and then 2022, 2023 and 2024 due to unwanted conditions.

A spokesman said: “We are all really disappointed because yesterday it looked like it could happen. It’s the British weather. It is such a pain. And everyone had put so much in it.”

Depending on the direction of the wind, the balloons should pass famous landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, the Palace of Westminster and Tower Bridge.

The organizers hope that the regatta can continue in 2026.

The event at which Londoner wakes up at dawn to see the balloons fly over the capital supports the mayor’s appeal and has collected more than £ 250,000 since 2015.
