by Nasas Curiosity Rover Has taken up the first close -ups of a part of Mars, from which scientists determine how water once flowed on the red planet.
There were once rivers, lakes and possibly an ocean on Mars, but they finally dry and the planet became the desert, according to NASA.
The new images of curiosity show “dramatic evidence” of the old groundwater in low combers, which are arranged in “A Boxwork Pattern” and extend on Mars over a mountain of a mountain, the space agency said.
“The basic rock under these combs probably formed when groundwater left the rock behind minerals that have accumulated in these cracks and cracks, hardened and cement -like,” said NASA in a press release.

The combs look like Spiderweb pattern from space and were only observed from the orbit beforehand, said NASA.
“A big mystery is why the ridge was hardened in these large patterns and why only here,” said Curiosity project scientist Ashwin Vasavada. “As we continue, we will study the burrs and minerals to ensure that our idea of how they have formed is at their destination.”
The combs have been filled with calcium sulfate that have been left behind by groundwater that have not yet been found in this part of the Mount Sharp, the 3 miles of new mountain newcomers, said NASA.
“This is really surprising,” said the deputy project scientist from Curiosity, Abigail Fraeman. “These calcium sulfate veins used to be everywhere, but they have disappeared more or less than we got on the Mount Sharp. The team is thrilled to find out why they have returned now.”
The curiosity ended up in the planet in 2012 in the Gale crater. Since 2014 she has risen to the foothills of Mount Sharp and, according to NASA, searched for signs of environments that could have supported life.
