The selection of a name for your baby must be one of the most difficult tasks. It not only has to grasp your personality and grasp yourself “right” – for you as well as for you, it must also pass the test of the time. After all, you will have this name forever.
Many people go down the traditional path and adhere to timeless classics. While others fluctuate more of cultural changes and what is popular at the moment.
This morning the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the top baby names that boys and girls were born in 2024
For the second time in a row, Muhammad was the most popular young name in England and Wales, while Olivia, who has been number one since 2016, led the list for girls.

Very little has changed compared to 2023. The three best names of boys for this year were also Noah, Oliver and Leo, while the two most popular maiden names were Olivia and Amelia. This year, however, Isla was replaced by Lily.
However, Willow and Isabella include the names that have canceled the top 10 list this year.
Some remarkable shifts include the deduction of royal names such as George, which dropped two places on number six and Louis, which fell from 45th to 47th place. However, Charlotte remained number 23 in the same position.
One of the more unusual monikers who came less than five times in 2024 were Cuthbert, Crispin, Awesome, Beckham, Orchid, Poem, Sicily and Everest.
How the data is collected
Every year the Office of National Statistics (ONS) collects the data of birth registrations in England and Wales. It is about the exact spelling of the registered names – which means that there may be variants of spelling.
