It would be difficult to find a northern village without a pub. Often former Inns coaching Inns or Drovers’ Inns, keep the same feeling of greeting and refreshment for all -rounders (nowadays, including dogs, cyclists and hikers), but with more comfort. The food may be more sophisticated and the decor is more intelligent, but the best still have original features such as exposed stone walls and roasted fires. The beers with many pubs that are covered within the borders of the district are of course central. Evocative Brewery names that you should look for belong to Hexhamshire, Cheviot, Rigg & Furrow and First & Last. Northumbrian Gins, Wodkas and even whiskey and rum also proudly keep the spirits locally.

The ship
This white whitewashed pub with a room in the corner of the village grass in a tiny low Newton-by-the-Sea could be “best for the view”: The Village Green, which serves as an unofficial beer garden, opens up to the beach. Beers and names such as “Sandcastles at Dawn” and “Sea Dog” are brewed alongside four and five at the bar next door. With scrubbed wooden floors and tables, the bar regularly has folk nights and cake nights.

Gasthaus brewed twice
This five-minute march by Hadrian’s wall by Hadrian’s wall is large and unpretentious with a large L-shaped bar. Thanks to its spacious beer garden, it is popular with families during the day. The six handmade ales, which were made in the brewery from the next door, are constantly being seen from the always popular Sycamore Gap Pale Ale. Others can include steel rigg (one porter), Ale Caesar (an amber beer) or the crack of 7.5 percent wheat beer, all my friends are dead. Try the adjacent line space for a “trial plank” of three different beers.

About our experts
My introduction to Northumberland pretended to be a Roman Zenturion in a Hadrian wall of wall in childhood. Now that I lived near the wall, I have discovered a lot more. Last but not least, Horizon stretching views, parrot divers, crab sandwiches and wild, empty beaches.
