Shiller photos show July Full ‘Buck Moon’ Reach Peak Illumination

The full moon in July, known as “Buck Moon”, made a show for the audience by sitting on the horizon unusually low on July 10th. It was the most distant full moon of the sun in 2025.

The name “Buck Moon” refers to male deer or bucks that quickly grow their antlers at this time of year. This year’s Buck Moon reached its height on Thursday at 4:37 p.m.

Because of the summer solstice, this full moon was so visibly low on the horizon, which begins and marks the summer when the sun travels with its highest point a day. When the sun is on its high summit, according to Space.com, the moon travels all night over a lower path. Due to its low position in the sky, Buck Monde looks a little orange due to the rayleigh scatter, which is the same thick atmosphere that makes us see sunsets as a very orange.

A full moon happens when the sun, earth and moon are in alignment and form a straight line. Since the moon and the sun are on both sides of the earth, the light of the sun seems entirely on the moon, so that, according to the almanac of the farmers, it looks completely illuminated from the perspective of the earth.

Even if you missed the Buck Moon on July 10th, the full moon will be clearly visible on the next nights according to Space.com. There are only five full Mone left in 2025, the next is the “Sturgeon Moon” on August 9th and three super mions in October, November and December, according to a schedule of the Bauernalmanac.
