Schoolgirl, 12, “punished” because he wore union flag dresses

A 12-year-old girl was put in isolation because he had carried a union flag dress for the cultural day of her school, her father said.

Courtney Wright from “Straight A” wore the Spice Girls-like dress and wrote a piece about British history and traditions on Friday as part of the celebrations.

Later she was told that the dress was “unacceptable” and was pulled out of the lessons and made it to sit in the reception until her father collected her.

Her father Stuart Field, 47, said he was surprised to find out that she was separated from her colleagues due to her selection of clothing at the Bilton School in Rugby in Rugby.

Mr. Field, who works in the Marine Restoring, said: “Courtney was so embarrassed and could not understand what she had done wrong.

“She should not be ashamed that she is British. And it should not be punished for celebrating British – no one else I talked to can bring her head around her.”

He added: “Someone in school politicized a Union Jack dress, although this was clearly not Courtney’s intention. Courtney did nothing to be political.

“It’s about being able to wear the British, the Spice Girls and even freedom to wear a dress. That is exactly what it means to be British.”

In a authorization letter to the parents it says that the day is “designed to promote the admission, understanding and appreciation of different backgrounds to promote traditions and heirs”.

But Mr. Field said that the school’s actions violated the message and other students were turned away from the school goals with St. George’s flags and Welsh flags.

He added: “It is the school that did it political, and it went against everything that the event took place.

“All children there are British in my eyes. I like to think I’m a tolerant person, but that was just not right.

“I wanted an answer to why they thought it was acceptable – and nobody could give me a clear answer, I wanted to know how they had justified it.

“I spoke to her year of the year and he said he was not the best person I talked to, so I can only assume that he doesn’t really agree.

“Obviously it came from him, but I don’t know exactly who made the decision.”

“We deeply regret the need that caused this and offer our sincere and non -reserved excuses.

“Since then we have spoken directly to the pupil and your family to listen to your concerns and to think about how this could be treated better.

“We are obliged to learn from this experience and to ensure that every student feels recognized and supported when he proudly expresses his heir.
