Russia met with one of the strongest quakes ever – how bad is an earthquake of 8.8?

A massive earthquake of the size of 8.8 sizes hit the Russia’s Far East Peninsula on Tuesday.

The earthquake was flat in the US Geological Survey, with its epicenter at a depth of about 19 km (12 miles) and 119 km east of the Russia, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatky-Stadt with a population of around 165,000 people in East Südost Russia.

Earthquakes are caused when the rocky tectonic plates of the planet float on magma, rub against each other, release massive amounts of energy.
