RBS Permane returns to Belgian GP two years after dismissing as a team boss

Two years after one of the saddest weekends in his career, Alan Permane returned to the Belgian Grand Prix with a spring as a newly appointed boss of Racing Bulls.

Modified two weeks ago after Laurent Mekies’ departure to take over the sister team Red Bull after the dismissal of Christian Horner took over the management of the sister team, the duration was congratulated by friends on and from the Pitlane.

He was also happy to think about his dramatic assets of assets after telling Alpine in 2023 that the Belgian race should be his last as sports director after a 34-year career at the outfit based in Enstone.

“It was quite a journey, that’s sure,” he said. “Two years ago it was a very sad day for me, but I am grateful to the Red Bull family for what they did for me.”

The 58 -year -old Permane was a constant part of the team and the paddock for decades and deserved respect and admiration when he worked his way out of early experience as a mechanic at the Benetton test team.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff described him as “a rock of F1” and someone “with a lot of knowledge”.

But as an Alpine, the team, the former Outfits Benetton, Renault and Lotus followed when he carried out his operation by Enstone, he was unloaded.

He faced an insecure future and was happy when his phone rang and at the other end it was a friend and colleague Mekies and offered him a job as a race director at Racing Bulls.

He accepted and now has the Frenchman with Mekies’ promotion, who thanks him again for recommending him as his successor.

“I am so proud to keep this opportunity to keep this team,” said Permane. “I’m looking forward to it. It was busy for two weeks, that’s sure, but it was exciting.

“It is quite a change for me. I am a trackside type. I spent my life on the race track. There they lead teams of 60 to 100 people, but now it’s another step … I’m looking forward to it.”

Ironically, he will now have to rub his shoulders with other team bosses, including Alpine’s advisor Flavio Briatore, who was one of the first to congratulate when his boss in Enstone rubbed his shoulders during her Benetton days.
