The Facebook owner Meta has opened a new Audio Research Laboratory in Cambridge as part of the Push of the Tech giant in KI glasses.
The bosses of Meta met Chancellor Rachel Reeves on Wednesday morning when they started the 12 million pounds.
It was reported that the Facebook and the Instagram owner bought a minority stake in Oakley and Ray Ban owner Essilorluxottica SA, the world’s largest glasses business.
It is reported that the company’s proportion will amount to around three billion euros (£ 2.6 billion) and almost 3% of the company based in Paris.
Meta has shown plans to quickly expand the business with Ray-Ban Meta and recently announced Oakley meta products.
The Silicon Valley Business said that its expansion plans in this area have invested in the new Audio research laboratory in Cambridge in order to “drive spatial audio and machine learning for the future AI glasses of META”.
The facility includes “Reverb Rooms and Ultra-Projectic Acoustic Chambers” in order to improve the audio quality of the products in development.
Meta employs more than 5,500 people in his British operations.
Joel Kaplan, Chief Global Affairs Officer for Meta, met Ms. Reeves at the location and underlined the group’s commitment to invest in the UK.
Mr. Kaplan said: “The creation of this audio laboratory from world class in Cambridge is a sign of our long-term commitment to Great Britain and our belief in the top-technical talent it produces.
“We want the brightest heads to ensure that our intelligent glasses are driven by AI via the most intelligent audio so that they can concentrate on what they hear, no matter what they are going around them.
“I can’t wait to experience the results of the laboratory’s work.”
Ms. Reeves said: “Meta’s investment is a great vote of trust in Great Britain as a hub for worldwide leading research and innovation and helps to end the potential in the Oxford Cambridge growth corridor.
“We want our high-tech industries to continue to lead the world in the coming years. That is why we support our innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs with a record of 22 billion pounds on F&E (Research and Development), the opportunities for good jobs and investments in the UK and the provision of our plan for changes.”
