The operator of The Orient Express relies on the fact that wealthy British pay up to £ 16,000 for a three -day train trip from London to Wales after you have initiated a “luxurious” new train vacation.

Belmond, owned by the French luxury giant LVMH, plans to take the new train from London to Mid-Wales and Snowdonia for the name Britannic Explorer.

The 10-Kutsch train offers space for 36 guests, with twin cabins climbing £ 11,000 to £ 16,000 for a suite and a double bed.

Belmond said it was a strong demand for the trips, which also includes a tour of the West Country and another around the Cumbrian Coast and the Lake District, despite the high price tag.

According to Belmond, the cabins are already booked 70 percent for this year. The company emphasizes a female guest who has made all three Britannic Explorer routes in a row.

With £ 16,000, the cost of a trip to the Britannic Explorer is sufficient to finance a 75-day cruise for two around South America and the Caribbean. It is also much more expensive than the Venice-Orient-Express of Venice of the company, in which the berths for the two-day trip of Paris of £ 3,885 per person cost.

Belmond has the tours of England and Wales to ask for luxurious train trips for its existing trains, including the Orient Express and the Royal Scotsman Sleeper from Edinburgh in the Scottish highlands, after a request for luxurious railways.

Gary Franklin, head of Belmond’s access to Belmond, said: “We are always looking for new travel routes and we thought why we didn’t look in front of our own door. Maybe we underestimate the train of these amazing places.

“Cornwall, Wales and the Lake District are really suitable for these trips and go to a beautiful train that can otherwise be quite difficult to get inefficient and rather inefficient, but in a luxurious way.

He said that around half of all passengers will probably be British and will be crowned by visitors from the USA, Northern Europe and Asia.

Belmond is not concerned about the slow British economy, he said.

“This is a long -term investment, not just a project for a few years. We hope that we will have many British customers and that the travel routes have been working to address them,” he added.

In contrast to many train tours, the focus will be on “contemporary nostalgia”. The trains use modern carriages equipped with award-winning British designers and are drawn by diesel locomotives and not by steam engines.

Mr. Franklin said the trips will offer a combination of “slow trips” – the top speed is 75 km / h and offers time to “relax, reflect and look out of the window” – with food and drinks and side trips to local attractions.
