Callum Wilson saw a lot of football. It wasn’t all preparation for a month of experts. He has the feeling that he has observed too much in the past few months. Really in the past two years. And not from the DAZN studio or a portal, but the shelter. During his time during the analysis of the World Cup, he became a footballer without a club, his stay in Newcastle ended when his contract had expired. However, there will be no free transfer to one of the broadcasters of the sport. Not yet.
“I’m 33 years old. I still have so much to give in the game,” he said. “I still feel mentally and physically able to contribute to many games in one season.”

So he left Newcastle. They were a successful season: a first trophy since 1969, a fifth place to return to the Champions League. But he was a frustrating campaign on a personal level: a record of 18 Premier League appearances does not tell the whole story when 16 in Cameos, many of them, and the only goal of the goal scorer came in the Fa Cup.
Wilson suffered from the success of a man he sees as one of the best in his position in the global game. If he was an unused second line -up, it is because the first choice was the first class.
“It is simply difficult to play in an association if you are probably one of the best strikers of world football in the form of Alex Isak at the moment,” he said. “It is difficult to break in. I am never one who wrote away from a fight, I would be happy to push and take my opportunity to take it, but it just didn’t seem to be created in the back of the season. I was fit from January, I made two starts and numerous replacement appearances, but they were here or there every five or ten minutes. [to play]. He had a fantastic two seasons in the club, all recognition for Alex, but I don’t see myself permanently as No. 2 strikers. “

And it was a feeling that after “astonishing” park after “amazing” five seasons. “I don’t want the last years to get out of my career and sit on the bench and just collect money, but not actually contributed to these Champions League games, contributed to these cup final,” he said. “You want to be part of it, you want to score and help in these games and decide these games. As the character, I am as motivated as me and ambitious to get into the hundred club, and the like was the right decision to leave Newcastle.”

The hundred Club Wilson Cites is the Premier League striking elite, the men with a century of gates in the division. He has been in 88 for more than a year.
But a striker who is proud of his numbers can threaten to be in a different kind of hundred clubs. He scored a goal every 109 minutes in the Premier League in 2023-24, one every 104 last season. It is a return that many can only envy another striker. But Wilson wondered: “You have to be on the field to get these options. When you sit on the bench, watch the team create so many chances, but they are not on the field to take them, they itch, go further.”
Now he is itching another chance. “You want to play at the highest level, so that’s my ambition,” he added. “I don’t say where I go, I have to be strikers of the first choice, but the rotation will be fair. I have the feeling that I can break in people in different leagues in my position and remove people in different leagues.” And in Newcastle, a player with 44 leagers in the last two seasons, there was an Isak -shaped roadblock on his ambitions.

Newcastle does not want to sell Isak. Wilson couldn’t use him to continue. “If I am proud to stay because Alex may go and he doesn’t go, bit me on the back,” he said. But there were talks about his future with Eddie Howe, his former Bournemouth manager. She was a productive, long -term alliance. Now Wilson is looking for another patron.

He is determined to be in the best possible shape. “I will now put myself in a fitness camp for a short time, and during this time I will make a decision about my future,” he said. And in the meantime, Newcastle faces the question of how to replace it.
Wilson’s Punditry career gave him an insight into one of her summer goals. Instead, Joao Pedro achieved a semi-final double of the World Cup for Chelsea. “He looks like a fantastic commitment,” said Wilson. “Newcastle also tried to sign him, which unfortunately didn’t happen to them.”

A new addition to the team of experts tried to be a sensitive assessor of his colleagues. “If a striker misses a chance, it is not a wish to try it,” he said. “Was it the wrong technique or what happened five seconds ago? I tried to analyze it from that time instead of criticizing it.”

In fact, he said, he never needed the experts to find mistakes in his game when it went wrong. “I am probably my biggest critic and analyze more than anyone else, so when I play well, I don’t really have to feel that I have to seek confirmation of people who tell me that I was playing well,” he added.
But he hopes to play and play well. Even if he examines his future, he hopes to postpone part of it. In the Punditry, he says, it was about “experiencing something new, something else, something that I thought I would be interested in career as a post”. But this career, he believes, has many games and goals left.
