by Boston (AP) – A researcher at Harvard University who was accused of smuggling clawed frogyons into the USA was charged on Wednesday for additional charges.
Kseniia Petrova, a scientist born in Russia, carried out cancer research at the Harvard Medical School, was charged with a federal jury in Boston on Wednesday for covering up a material fact, a number of false statements and a number of smuggling goods to the USA. She was charged with the smuggling in May.
Despite the additional fees, Petrova remains in the pre -judicial release.
A Petrova lawyer could not be achieved for a comment.
She returned from France in February when she was interviewed by the US customs and border protection at Boston Logan International Airport.
The 30 -year -old Petrova had stopped in a laboratory that specialized in superfine sections of frog chembryons and received a package of samples for research. Federal civil servants of the social media website X accused them of lying that they were “transporting substances” to the country and claimed that they had to smuggle the embryos through customs without explaining them.
In an interview in April, she told The Associated Press that she did not realize that the objects had to be declared and did not try to sneak into the country.
Petrova was announced that her visa was canceled and arrested in Vermont after her first arrest by immigration officials. She submitted a petition in which she was looking for her release and was briefly sent to an ICE facility in Louisiana, according to which a judge decided that the actions of the immigration officers were unlawful. In May she was charged with smuggling.
When Petrova is charged with smuggling, he will face a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine of up to 250,000 US dollars. She also faces a prison sentence of up to five years and a fine of up to 250,000 US dollars for disguising material facts and incorrect statements.
