Jota and his brother were killed in Spain on Thursday, July 3, when their car took off the street after a tire eruption.
The Portuguese international was on the way back to England to report about the training before the season and was advised by the doctors not to be due to a minor surgery due to an injury.
A joint funeral for the couple in Gondomar, her hometown, took place on Saturday, and a strong Liverpool contingent was present.
In an explanation, the Premier League master said that Jota’s shirt number “will retire in honor and memory of Diogo at all levels”.
This extends over the sides of the women and the academy as well as the first team of men.

The explanation said: “The move is not only the immeasurable contribution of our boy from Portugal to the success of the Reds in the past five years, but also the profound personal effects that he had on his teammates, colleagues and supporters and the eternal connections he built with them.”
Jota signed for the Reds in 2020 and played 182 times for the Anfield outfit. In his time on Merseyside, he scored 65 goals, where he won the Premier League title last season to complement the FA Cup and the Liga Cup Triumph in 2022.
