El Salvador President threatens imprisoned gangsters for the Paris fashion week

El Salvador’s President said that he would send the country’s notorious mega contract to France after a Paris fashion week shows the treatment of the prisoners by the government.

Nayib Bukele criticized a collection by Willy Chavarria, a Mexican-American designer, in which models were presented with outfits that resemble occupant uniforms in El Salvadors Terrorism Concess Center (CECOT).

The prison of maximum security was opened in 2023 at the command of Mr. Bukele as part of his war against organized crimes, but human rights groups have expressed concerns about the poor conditions and a lack of proper procedure.

On an online message in which he said that the show of Mr. Chavarria was a tribute to Cecot prisoners, the President of El Salvador wrote: “We are ready to send them all to Paris when we received the green light of the French government.”

Mr. Bukele’s press team said the president’s answer showed his “permanent attitude against trying to glorify crime”.

The show of the Paris Fashion Week by Mr. Chavarria was opened with 35 men who went along the runway along with white T-shirts and shorts that were closed in cooperation with the American Civil Liberties Union.

The models were then settled in kneel positions with their heads and remembered pictures that had passed a harder approach for gangs in the months after the government of El Salvador was adopted.

Others wore T-shirts that were wrong with the word “America” and speculated fashion critic was a comment on Mr. Chavarria’s conviction that the country moves backwards.

The designer also sent invitations for his spring exhibition in 2026 in the form of replica immigration invitation, whereby the documents certified the “right to exist” of the readers before they ask to present themselves to a “presentation of humanity”.

Tens of thousands of alleged gang members were raised and imprisoned in El Salvador, since an emergency state was declared in March 2022 after an increase in murders and violent crimes.

In the success of the procedure, the state’s government reported that the murder rate decreased by almost 70 percent in 2023.

However, concerns about the conditions within Cecot and the possibility that some of the detained were innocent in the participation of gangs were expressed.

Human Rights Watch claimed that inmates were denied communication with relatives or lawyers, with reports claiming prisoners left their cells only 30 minutes a day.

In addition to around 15,000 domestic prisoners, Cecot also holds more than 200 Venezuelans from the United States and were accused of being members of the Tren de Aragua criminal police.

The Trump government paid the government of Mr. Bukele millions of dollars to include migrants, and claimed that they were criminals and gang members.

In March, Donald Trump arrived only little used war regulations to fly the migrants to El Salvador without court hearings.
