According to the NHS, around 850,000 people live in Great Britain.

The disease is associated with damage to the brain, which influences people’s memory.

According to the Lancet Commission for Dementia prevention, intervention and care, up to 45% of our risk from lifestyle factors such as smoking and drinking less.

This is because the brain does not work in isolation. For example, some researchers have associated poorer dial and has been associated with higher incidence of depression.

And a paper published in 2023 is one of many who present a connection between the care of an organ and a reduced risk of dementia, especially at a younger age.

Heart health could be the key to prevention of dementia

The paper published in the Journal of the American Heart Association examined data from over 430,000 people in British Biobank.

It found that coronary heart disease with a 13% increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease and a 78% risk for the development of vascular dementia were associated (according to Alzheimer’s, this is the most common form of the disease in Great Britain associated with blood flow).

When people were diagnosed in people with heart diseases before the age of 45, the researchers found dementia more often.

Dr. Fanfan Zheng, the main author of the study, said: “What surprised us the most was the linear relationship between the age of coronary heart disease and dementia.

“This shows the enormous disadvantage of the early coronary heart disease on the health of the brain.”

It is far from the only connection between heart health and dementia

Several studies have associated the untreated high blood pressure with dementia.

Too much “bad” cholesterol is also associated with stroke and deposits of amyloid and tau proteins, both of which are connected to dementia.

Men with a high cardiovascular risk can be endangered in particular, and the researchers have “emphasized the importance of aggressive orientation towards cardiovascular risk factors 55 years ago to prevent neurodegeneration and Alzheimer’s disease”.

In a press release, the former President of the American Heart Association, the neurologist Dr. Mitchell Elkind,: “We now know that many of the same health risk factors that cause heart diseases and stroke also contribute to a decline in general brain health.”

The expert recommended that the life of the American Heart Association essential 8 for brain and heart advantages. These are:

  1. Be active

  2. Smoke

  3. Get enough sleep

  4. Stop a healthy weight

  5. Cholesterol control

  6. Manage your blood sugar

  7. Manage your blood pressure.
