Brentford confirms Keith Andrews to follow Thomas Frank as head coach

Brentford has confirmed Keith Andrew’s appointment as head coach. The 44-year-old rises from his role as a set-piece trainer to take over from Thomas Frank, who joined Tottenham.

Andrews does not have a senior manager experience, but had coaching roles at MK Dons, the Republic of Ireland and Sheffield United before he came to Brentford last July. The step reflects Brentford, who promoted Frank as the successor to Dean Smith in 2018, a jump that the Dane had made with enormous success, although Frank Brøndby and various Denmark youth teams had led.

The football director of Brentford, Phil Giles, said: “Keith continues very well. He continues with everyone, he is very open and he learns. Keith is clear in what he wants, he is detailed and the players and employees like him and respect him. He understands the players in the building and the way we are played and trained under Thomas.

“Keith will bring his own development with him, but does not start from the front. Hopefully we can make some quick progress. He is a very good trainer and has clear ideas about how to improve. We have searched for someone not only to receive what we did, but actually try to get better.”

Andrews won in a career as a midfielder 35 Ireland Caps, which included spells in the Premier League with Blackburn and West Brom. When he was hired by Brentford, Giles said that Andrews was “someone we have known for a while and always had a role in mind”.

Brentford continued to beat her weight by taking 10th place in the Premier League in May and signing the goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher from Liverpool. Her striker Brian Mbumo is about to Manchester United last season.
