by A Banksy artwork is located in the center of a legal series after the East London Club, on the wall of which it was painted, claims that it was removed without permission and was offered for sale in the USA.
The play with the title Yellow Lines Flower Painter was created in 2007 on the outside of the Bethnal Green Working Mans’s Club. It shows an exhausted worker in dungarees that collapses on a can of color, next to a flower that sprouts from the double yellow lines of the street.
The artwork is now in Colorado and is offered for sale. According to the Financial Times, the trustee of the club will be used to start a lawsuit against the long -time programmer of events, Warren Dent and other parties.
The club’s former accountant at Capital & Co says that the artwork bought the 2019 GBP for 20,000 GBP with the agreement of the club secretary Stephen Smorthit.
Dent later, Chris Bull hired to remove the piece of the art restaurant from the wall and restore. Bull says that after a meeting with a dent and “three members of the club” of his father’s art gallery in Aspen, Colorado, the art gallery of his father, Colorado, were loaned for an exhibition.
Before the work of art was transported to the USA, it received an insurance assessment of around 557,000 GBP – significantly higher than the amount that paid for it.
However, a lawsuit that was submitted by three of the trustees of the club last month claims that they have never authorized the sale and demand the return of work. The trustees Alan Milliner, Paul Le Masurier and Kerry Smorthit – the daughter of the club secretary – argue that Dent does not have the work of art and cannot legally sell it.
In addition to Dent, Bulls Fine Art Restoration from Bull was also mentioned in the lawsuit. Bull said to Media: “We are only named because we have the work and are ready to give up when we are asked to do so.”
Banksy is one of the most famous street artists in the world. His works are known to tackle problems such as war, inequality, consumerism and corruption of the government. His most valuable piece sold in 2021 for £ 18.6 million.
The murals of Banksy are particularly difficult to estimate or sell. His official authentication authority, pest control, does not provide any certificates for work on walls that significantly reduce their marketability for important auction houses.
Last year, a Banksy wall picture with helicopter with pink arches that were removed from a SHOREDITCH office block -despite the estimated estimate of 500,000 GBP, could not sell to an auction. It had no authenticity certificate.
The artist is also supposed to miss the fact that his works from public walls are removed, although his former manager, Steve Lazarides, has previously noticed that such a move is “part of the game”.
Last month, Banksy published a picture of his latest work in which speculation triggered in Marseille. The painting shows a lighthouse with the words: I want to be what you have seen in me.
