A new generation of adult diapers was the focus of a fashion show on the Omutsu World Expo.
The organizers of the event entitled “Omutsu” (the Japanese word for diaper) – claimed that it was the largest diaper fashion show in the world.
It took place in Osaka and included panel discussions about the importance of the development of “future adult diapers” in order to meet the needs of the dramatically aging population of Japan.
The models selected by headlights wore adult diapers, which both had striking designs and were in living colors.
It was intended to show that “people with different backgrounds, different breeds, body shapes, age, beliefs and physical conditions can take part and have fun while wearing diapers,” said the organizers and added that they “can create a world in which someone can enjoy fashion, even if they have a disability or problems with excretion”.
“We will suggest the world of the future from the perspectives of well -being, medical care and design,” they said.
Kei Hirabayashi, director of the Japan Welfare and Medical Fashion Association, described the show as a “social experiment” to see what would happen if diapers were “cooler than skirts or pants”.
“We want to change the negative image of diapers,” he said in a congress center on Tuesday in a congress center on Tuesday that is part of the current 2025 World Expo Osaka.
The fashion show showed more than 30 models that have products developed by some of the largest diaper manufacturers in Japan, including Kao Corp and Unicharm.
One of the models was in a motorized wheelchair while a female model was wearing a diaper that highlighted her leg prosthesis.
The speakers included Norishige Kanai, an astronaut who explained the “inseparable relationship”, who have astronauts with diapers while they are in space.
Japanese diaper companies want to diversify product lines and develop new markets, while their traditional target group – newborn babies – shrink.
As in many industrialized countries, Japan faces an increasing population crisis. There was a record of 5.7 percent of the previous year compared to the previous year.
The number of Japanese from the age of 65 or older rose to 36.25 million in the same year, and pensioners now accounted for 29.3 percent of the total population. The government’s estimates show that almost 35 percent of the population will be older by 2040.
In March 2024, Oji Nepia, one of the largest manufacturers of available diapers in Japan, announced that it hired the production of lines for infants and shifted completely on diapers for older people.
