Two friends have accused an Airbnb host of “xenophobia” after they were rejected because of a room booking because they were Welsh.
Jemma Louise Gough (38) and Jamie Lee Watkins (37) had tried to book a night room for one night on the property in Manchester.
They traveled from CWMBRAN, South Wales, to the city to see the Australian music producer Sonny Fodera in the city arena in the city.
In the reason for your visit you wrote that you came from Wales to see the performance “. A little more than an hour after their booking request they were sent by e -mail to say that it had been rejected.
When they asked why the booking had been canceled, the host replied with the news: “Because they come from Wales”.
Ms. Gough, who works as a school subrot, said: “My mouth was on the floor – nothing more than ‘because you are out of whale”. It was nothing about us to the concert or whatever. It was only discrimination against the country.
“We are amazing people who are welsh -based. I don’t know what I and my friend or all of Wales, that’s so terrible. It is xenophobia. It’s absolutely terrible.”
Ms. Watkins, a nurse who tried to make the booking through her report, said she understood whether the host was obtained, “to go to concerts and come back if they had something or something. This is an explanation”.
She added: “It was really blunt, just one line: because they are from the capitals of Wales. What difference does that make?”
“It is discrimination”
Ms. Watkins asked the host for further explanations for the rejection and said that it was “discrimination according to the 2010 equality law”.
She said her message had been read, but did not receive an answer and added: “I was really a bit shocked that people still say such things.”
Ms. Gough posted on Instagram and Facebook to complain about the experience. The video has won thousands of views and comments from social media users who shared it.
Katie Jones, the “Superhost”, who rejected Ms. Gough and Mrs. Watkins, describes himself as “friendly and relaxed” in the app. It has also organized eight years and has an average rating of 4.96 stars.
The EN Suite double room with an average rating of 4.97 stars with 300 reviews has since been exposed to Airbnb from its platform.
An Airbnb spokesman said: “Discrimination, including nationality, has no place for Airbnb. As soon as this report has been made aware of us, we turned to the guest to provide our support and suspend the host while we are investigating this matter.”
Ms. Jones was addressed for a comment.
