The King’s College Hospital in Südlondon said that a patient died “unexpectedly” during the cyber attack.
An examination of death resulted in a “number of factors, including a“ long waiting for a blood test result due to the cyber attack ”.
The provider of Pathology Services Synnovis was the victim of a ransomware attack by a Russian cyber gang in June last year.
As a result, more than 10,000 appointments were canceled by the two London NHS trusts that were worst affected.
And a significant number of family practices in London could not order blood tests for their patients.
A spokesman for the King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said: “Unfortunately, a patient died unexpectedly during the cyber attack.
“In this case, we carried out a detailed review of your care.
“A number of factors that led to the patient’s death were determined in the examination of the patient safety.
“This included a long waiting time for a blood test result, since the cyber attack influenced the pathological services at that time.
“We met with the patient’s family and shared the results of the security examination with them.”
At the beginning of this month, health officers confirmed that 170 patients suffered damage due to the attack.
Mark Dollar, managing director of Synnovis, said: “We are deeply sad to hear that the criminal cyber attack of the past year was identified as one of the factors that led to the patient’s death.
“Our hearts go to the family involved.”
A government spokesman said: “Our deepest sympathy is with the patient’s family.
“This tragedy is reminiscent of the threat that Russia is of our daily life and how serious the consequences of these attacks can be for our critical infrastructure.”
