‘Emotional’ yu, 12, celebrates the historic world swimming medal

China’s Yu Zidi said she felt “quite emotional” after the 12-year-old had become the youngest swimmer in history who won a world championship medal.

Yu swam in the heating of the 4x200m freestyle relay for women, but missed the final on Thursday when China demanded bronze behind Australia and the United States in Singapore.

Yu, who competed on Thursday in the 200 meter butterfly final of the women – was fourth – a medal as a member of the Chinese relay team.

“It feels pretty emotional, it’s a nice feeling,” she said.

Yu turned on the head with her appearances in Singapore.

She qualified for the 200m -specific Medley final on Monday and finished fourth. He missed a medal by only 0.06 seconds in what is not considered the strongest event.

She pursued this with another fourth place in the 200 -M butterfly final and will also compete in the 400 -M -Inszelmedley.

But not everyone believes that Yu should compete in Singapore.

Some in sports have raised questions about the mental and physical effects of high -ranking training and the competition at an age in which it still develops as a person.

According to the current rules of the world’s aquatics, the minimum age is 14, but younger swimmers can compete at the championships if – like Yu – are fast enough.
