When Princess Diana went along with King Charles III (then known as Prince of Wales) in 1981, her extravagant wedding dress solidified her status as fashion icon – and set trends in the coming years: Mariah Carey.

Who designed Princess Diana’s wedding dress?
David and Elizabeth Emanuel, also known as Emanuels, designed Princess Diana’s wedding dress. She liked the duo for the first time after wearing one of her chiffon blouses that was tailored for her engagement portrait session. The annoyed pink top recently collected 381,000 US dollars at an auction.
“When she saw our blouse on the frame, she fell in love with her and asked who made her and was addressed to us,” said Elizabeth Emanuel in her 2006 book “A Dress for Diana”.
Diana himself chose the Emanuels to design her wedding dress that, according to Elizabeth, “had to be something that would go into history, but also something that Diana loved” and that “would be reasonable dramatic to make an impression”.
What is Princess Diana’s wedding dress done?
The dress was made from Elfenbeiden-Tfift and ancient Carrickmacross tip, which previously belonged to Diana’s great-grandmother Queen Mary. Embroidery, sequins and over 10,000 pearls adorned their waist, hem and train, which broke the royal wedding records with a length of 25 feet.
A small blue sheet was sewn into the waistband of the dress for Diana’s “Something Blue”, and a 18-carat gold horseshoe charm was also built in.

For “peace of mind”, the Emanuels designed a second dress for Diana’s wedding anniversary. “At that time we wanted to be absolutely sure that the dress was a surprise,” said Elizabeth Emanuel to People in 2011.
Sketches of the backup dress were first unveiled in 2023. Also made of ivory -colored silk tap – but without the ancient tip – it was embroidered with soaked details along the hem. Tiny pearls were also sewn on the top. However, the alternative dress has disappeared since then.
“It was really just a backup for the original and I don’t know where it went. It just disappeared,” said Elizabeth Emanuel to Hello! in 2023.
How much did Princess Diana’s wedding dress cost?
At the time of his creation, Diana’s dress was worth about 114,800 US dollars. Today the approximately 448,500 US dollar corresponds.
Where is Princess Diana’s wedding dress today?
In her will, Diana bequeathed her sons, Princes William and Harry, her tailor -made dress. You officially inherited it in 2014 on the 30th birthday.
Since then they have borrowed the wedding dress for the exhibition: in 2021 it was exhibited as part of the Kensington Palace show with the title “Royal Style in the Making”, which ended in 2022.
The legacy of the wedding dress

“Secrets of Diana’s wedding dress” revealed details about the equipment of Charles and Diana’s wedding on July 29, 1981, The Wedding Photos, the fears of the late British family member with regard to the relationship of the then Prince Charles Charles with Camilla Parker-Bowles (now King Charles IIis of around 20 years and the queen consumption) and much more.
“The dress dominated my life,” said Elizabeth Emmanuel. “I wanted to perform such a documentary for many years. There are a lot of documentaries about Diana rightly, but this is a story in a story that has never been told and it is a story of teamwork,” she said.
