The new wheelchair sports center is opened in Carmarthenshire

A new wheelchair sports hub helps to reduce barriers and promote active lifestyle.

The hub is located at the St Clears Leisure Center in Carmarthenshire and is part of the Actif Fepart Program.

It offers weekly meetings for people of all skills to get involved in wheelchair sport, regardless of whether they use a wheelchair in everyday life.

Council member Hazel Evans, a member of the cabinet for regeneration, leisure, culture and tourism, said: “We are proud to support this exciting new initiative that obliges the inclusion and participation in the community.

“The St Clears Hub shows what is possible when we work together to create opportunities that really welcome, regardless of the ability.

“It’s not just about sport – it’s about building confidence, friendships and a stronger, more integrative Cararthenshire.”

The meetings are delivered in collaboration with Basketball Wales, Disability Sport Wales and the Scarlets Community Foundation.

The participants can try wheelchair basketball, tennis and rugby with a three -week rotation.

The meetings take place every Wednesday at 5 p.m. with all equipment – including sports wheelchairs.

While the hub is mainly designed for wheelchair users, work -capable participants are also encouraged to take a participation, which makes it a room where family and friends can enjoy the experience together.

“We want to give everyone, regardless of skills or experience, the opportunity to try wheelchair sport, have fun and create trust.

“Thanks to our partners, we can offer high quality experience that is accessible to everyone.”

The meetings aim to promote physical activity, inclusion and commitment of the community in a supportive and inviting environment.
