The Paragon Supermodel not only modeled the clothes in which they are dressed. You chameleon in the character for which you were made, hair, make -up and everything. This is something that easily came to Somali supermodel Iman, born Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid, a skill she had from Yves Saint Laurent to Thierry Mugler as a muse for the biggest names of fashion.
From the beginning of her career in 1975, Iman was praised for her ability to illustrate the complementary but complicated relationship between fashion and beauty both on and outside the runway. It quickly catapulted to fame beyond the high-fashion stratosphere and was the first black model that has a make-up contract under Revlons polished Ambers cosmetics brand. There was no hair or make -up combination that she was afraid of. Most of the time, Iman was designed with protruding, sculptural hair, abstract eyeshadow and lively lip -colored.
More from WWD
An unfortunate car accident in 1983 forced her to temporarily break her model career. With the same lightness with which its hypnotic beauty, as described by WWD before, first penetrated the industry, she returned to the catwalk to continue the irrevocable chapter in her career in the following six years.
In front of us the WWD takes a look back at Iman’s best moments of beauty on the runway, from her high contrast make-up in Michael Vollracht Show from 1981 to her untouchable mane with Patrick Kelly’s Ready-to-Wear-autumn presentation in 1989.
Michael Vollbracht Modenschau from 1981
In the fashion show by designer Michael Villbracht from 1981, Iman went to her multi -colored poncho with an eccentric make -up view directly on the pages of editorial spread. On her eyes, she wore a navy shadow that carried her lid and waterline.
A dazzling highlight underlines her faded eyebrows while her bone structure was decorated with a rosy pink blush. Iman’s lips pulled a strong contrast to her eyes -Make -up, which was overshifted in a deep red lipstick with shiny overlap.
Yves Saint Laurent 1982 Rive Gauche Show
Iman Runway look for the historic Yves Saint Laurent 1982 Rive Gauche Show, which ended in exactly 55 minutes, will be remembered forever for the Spikey hairstyle. The bizarre element of her aesthetics saw her curls like a peacock train on her head and feathers between the glass end strands.
Kenzo Spring 1983 Presentation
Iman turned into a Kenzo Muse for the presentation of the 1983 brand and recorded a dramatic ponytail extension that fell on its waist.
A banana yellow band was a few centimeters away from their long ends. Her make-up was more atmospheric compared to the light-colored garment that she wore on the runway. Dark Charcoal Shadow swept over her eyes as her lips were added a light pink.
Thierry Mugler Spring 1984 Ready-to-Wear
Iman was a well -known inspiration for Thierry Mugler in the 1980s. She often went to Mugler’s shows with a variety of aesthetics, many with futuristic under tones.
For her appearance in spring 1984, Iman received a strong amount of black and blue shadows. The color stretched in a long triangle on the corners of her eyes. Her eyebrows were darker than usual, and Red Rouge was only put under her cheekbones. The lips added a color to the distinctive clouds around their eyes with red lipstick and clear shine.
Yves Saint Lauren 1985 Ready-to-Wear collection
Iman often attracted a hat or complex hairstyle for her in a Yves Saint Laurent show. For the 1985 collection of the fashion house, her hairstyle was steamed and matured to the left in a pixie cut.
The natural style was contrasted with a colorful face that consisted of a deep peri -angle eyeshadow and a matt red lipstick shade.
Chloe Spring 1984 Ready-to-Wear Show
In Karl Lagerfeld’s spring collection from 1984 for Chloe, Iman had a theater hairstyle that resembled the omnipresent ode of the collection of needle workers. Her curly hair was completely back into a cylinder shape like a thread wheel. A long silver pen was then pierced through the side like a sewing needle.
Thierry Mugler Spring 1988 fashion show
Iman’s beauty aesthetics for the Thierry Mugler Spring in 1988 in Paris was as wild as the feathered piece of clothing she was wearing. Her hair was annoyed and snapped far above her head like the mane of a lion.
The thick extensions fell on the left of her face. In primitive nature, Iman’s eyes were colored with brown shadows, and her lips had a malignant wine lipstick.
Donna Karan 1990 Ready-to-Wear presentation
As a Donna Karan model for her 1990 Ready-to-Wear show, Iman was designed with an ultra-short pixie cut and minimal make-up. The beauty aesthetics was more sophisticated and less theatrical compared to their look for Mugler and Yves Saint Laurent, but still glamorous.
Patrick Kelly Ready-to-Wear Herbst 1990
Iman went to the brand-shaped beauty trends of the 80s with a hair and a make-up look with a hair and a make-up look in 1990. Her hair became chaotic in half up, half down ‘like a bird’s nest on her head. The bouffant style was paired with a diluted make-up, which was dusted over her lid with brown shadow and packed under the eyebrows.
