“According to the rules of the league, every player who does not take part in the All-Star game without prior approval of the league is not in relation to the next game of their club.”

Although Messi is the main star of MLS, Commissioner Don Garber said that the rules would have to be enforced without exception, even though he was open to a future change.

“I know that Lionel Messi loves this league. I don’t think there is a player – or anyone – who has done more for Major League Soccer than Messi,” he said.
