by President Donald Trump published his long-awaited AI campaign plan and outlined steps to scale the regulations in order to establish the USA as a leader in technology worldwide.
“The United States are in a race to achieve global dominance in artificial intelligence (AI). Anyone who has the largest AI ecosystem will set global AI standards and use broad economic and military advantages,” says the introduction. “Just like we won the space race, it is absolutely necessary that the United States and their allies will win this race.”
The 28-page strategy entitled “Winning of the Race: America’s AI action plan” revolves around three “pillars”: acceleration of the AI innovation, the establishment of the AI infrastructure in the USA and the United States’ establishment as a leader in AI worldwide. It recommends dozens of measures that the federal government will take over these pillars in the coming months, including reducing the number of environmental regulations that are imposed on the data centers and have only worked with AI developers who are considered free of “ideological tendency”.
Trump had previously rolled back guidelines that President Biden had recorded Biden and tried to accelerate the development of technology since returning to the White House. Just a few hours after his inauguration, he raised an implementation regulation that Biden published in 2023, with the aim of determining security standards for the development and use of AI. Days later he signed an executive regulation that has decided to act on the revocation of the “certain existing AI guidelines and guidelines that act as obstacles to the American AI innovation, a way for the United States to keep global leadership in artificial intelligence”.
In recent times, his administration announced that the AI security institute, which was set up under Biden in November 2023, would be converted into the “Pro Science US Center for AI Standards and Innovation”.
Later on Wednesday, Trump is expected to take out comments on an AI summit in the White House and sign executive orders.
