Jamie Oliver shares the 3 meals that children can learn before leaving primary school

Jamie Oliver believes that most children can learn how to cook a few simple meals before leaving primary school – and he doesn’t talk about something special.

Studies show that children tend to eat what they make, especially fruit and vegetables, and with so many ultra-processed foods, it is a valuable life competence to know how to prepare a few meals.

Cooking with fishing can feel discouraging, but Jamie recommends that it can easily be kept with fishing cakes from thinking studies. They are not only affordable, but also high in omega-3 fatty acids, which is essential for the development of the brain in children.

A fishcake is a great way to start: mixing tuna with potato puree, shaping the mixture in pastets and easily requesting or baking it teaches a complete meal time process, cooking and cleaning up. Monument fish is also a safe way to start and handle children more easily.

Brei is a simple, affordable breakfast that children can learn to prepare for the hob or in the microwave.

Made from oats and milk or water, it is naturally high in carbohydrates and contains beta-glucan, a kind of soluble fiber that supports heart health and digestion. Cast with fruits, seeds or a spoon of honey, it is endlessly adaptable.

Let younger children help measure oats and fluids, stir at the stove and become creative with coverings such as fruit. It is also a great way to teach portion sizes and not to balance Sugar Mountain.

Although it is not a dish, knife skills are one of the most valuable things that you can teach a child in the kitchen that is of course safe and monitored. Here are Jamie’s top tips (and this set is a great starter kit):
