Ryanair gives employees bonuses to identify passengers who try to climb airplanes with oversized hand luggage.
A Payslip of a former employee shows a “Gate Bag Bonus” that is paid for the enforcement of the strict luggage directive of the airline.
The employee claimed that he received around £ 1.30 for every personal object that exceeded Ryanair’s size, with the bonus being limited to 70 GBP per month.
Ryanair confirmed on Saturday that the employees are financially stimulated to punish passengers – with excess bags that may cost customers up to 65 GBP.
However, the Irish Airline, which achieved sales of over £ 11 billion in the last financial year, refused to confirm how much is paid to the workforce as a “Gate Bag Bonus”.
A Ryanair spokesman told the Sunday Times: “We pay our agents who identify and calculate oversized bags, but these fees are paid by less than 0.1 percent of passengers who do not meet our agreed pocket rules.
“Our message to these 0.1 percent of passengers is simple: Please keep our generous pocket rules, otherwise you will be calculated in check-in or at the gate.
“For the 99.9 percent of our passengers who comply with our rules, we thank them and continue to fly because they don’t have to worry.”
Our message is simple: Please note or you will be calculated

Ryanair enables the passengers to bring a small personal bag like a handbag that fits under the seat in front of you, with maximum dimensions of 40 cm x 20 cm x 25 cm.
Additional payments are required for larger cabin bags of up to 10 kg (55 x 40 x 20 cm), whereby the prices at £ 5.
A few weeks ago, Ryanair announced that the size of his free hand luggage increased to 40 x 30 x 20 cm.
It came when the European Union agreed to impose new rules that prevent the airlines from calculating a small hand luggage.
