Löwen call Ireland Prop Clarkson and Scots Trio as cover

The British and Irish Lions added the Ireland Prop Tom Clarkson to their squad on Saturday as a cover for the first test against Australia in Brisbane on Saturday and called a trio from Scotland players for a tour match next week.

Ireland Tighthead Clarkson, together with Jamie George, will strengthen the options for the first test against the Wallabies in Brisbane.

England Hooker George received the call on Saturday after Luke Cowan-Dickie had suffered a suspected concussion of the brain in Adelaide in the 48-0 victory against Auunz XV.

The 25-year-old Clarkson flies from Lisbon, where he played in the Ireland team, who defeated Portugal on Saturday with 106: 7.

His call swelled the Irish quota in the Lions squad under Ireland head coach Andy Farrell to 18 players.

The Scottish Trio Rory Sutherland, Ewan Asman and Darcy Graham will offer cover for the tour game against First Nations and Pasifika XV in Melbourne next Tuesday, July 22nd.

All three started 29: 14 against Fiji in Suva against Fiji and are prepared for a game against Samoa in Auckland on Friday in New Zealand.

Graham will miss the match against Samoa after being sent for a second yellow card against Fiji and will immediately join the Lions squad in Brisbane.

Sutherland and Asman will fly to Melbourne on Sunday.

Clarkson was given his Ireland debut by Farrell in November and won eight caps.

His team -mate of Ireland Jamie Osborne, who can play the center or full -back, is already called from Portugal at the Lions in Brisbane after he was injured as a cover for Blair Kinghorn, who had injured the knee last week.

Scotland’s Kinghorn, who was largely considered a full-back of the first election, landed awkwardly last Wednesday in the 36-24 victory against Act Brumbies, but scans on the knee did not show any serious damage.

“We are confident that he will take part in training (this week),” said Lions defense trainer Simon Easterby from Kinghorn.

“Then it will be a bit of a waiting game whether it is available for the first test.”

The Lions, winners of all five warm-up games in Australia that led to the first test, have already lost the Welsh Scrum-Half-Tomos Williams by a torn thigh and an English full-back Elliot Daly with a broken arm.
