New Uber function enables families to book trips for older relatives from a distance

Uber starts a new function in Great Britain, with which families can book and follow the trips for their older relatives from afar.

These “senior accounts” are specially designed in such a way that older people use the Ride Hail app to move on.

The optimized version of the app offers larger text, buttons that are easier to type, simplified screens and fewer steps to ensure a booking to enable older users to enable the service with easier navigating.

Due to the existing “Family Profile” function from Uber, trustworthy family members or supervisors can invite an older adult to set up an account.

In this way, you can book or manage trips for the older user and offer support from a distance. The skills include live tracking of travel and the opportunity to contact the driver or the security report from Uber.

Relatives can also access the name and vehicle information of the driver if a booking is made.

Users can save preferred places to book links or use flexible payment options. You also have the option of booking trips independently without linking to a relative.

Senior accounts were piloted in the USA and Latin America last month and are now being introduced in Great Britain.

Uber said it worked with older users and lawyers of accessibility to develop the function that has the concerns that many older people feel excluded from the technology or do not have the skills of being digitally versed.

The introduction of “teen accounts” last year also follows, in which parents and supervisors can also match bookings and teenagers with more experienced drivers.

Andrew Brem, General Manager of Uber UK, said the instruments prioritized the simplicity, security and peace for older people and their families.

“These characteristics are about helping older adults to remain independent and connected, and give supporters the trust that Uber is there to help,” he said.
