NHS England introduced “Health Health Checks” about “dozens” of pharmacies yesterday.
These are designed for people with persistent acidic reflux or heartburn and will be tested on Barrett’s esophagus, which can sometimes be a forerunner for esophagus cancer.
Barrett’s esophagus refers to changes in the cells that line their grocery line, explained Cancer UK. Between 3% and 13% of people with the disease develop top cancer, and chronic digestive disorders and heartburn are the main symptoms.
The new check, which described a “sponge on a string” test, can check in ten minutes after this condition.
How does it work?
Someone who takes the test swallows a “pill on a thread” that once extends into the stomach in a “penny size.
This sponge is then accessed by a medical specialist with the cord. The cells that the sponge collects are tested for pre -cancer -like changes (a little like the swab used in an exhaust test).
The test is currently being used in hospitals and centers diagnosed in the municipality, but now it is also being introduced in pharmacies of the high school.
The pilot is carried out for two years. He is then evaluated to determine whether it is worth a permanent introduction.
Professor Peter Johnson, National Cancer Director of the NHS, said: “This new pilot has a comfortable test where people shop, and makes it easier to check the patient than ever before, which they may worry.
“For the majority of people with persistent reflux, these fast and simple health checks are calmed down with heartburn that they have no increased risk of cancer, and for those who find that they have barRets esophagus, regular follow-up examinations are carried out so that all further cell changes can be discovered early.”
The test was described as a “game changer”
Cancer Research UK wrote that people with Barrett’s Ösophagus often do not notice any symptoms, while people with frequent heartburn may be rejecting them.
“In more than 8,000 people, in whom rinsing cancer was diagnosed in the late stage every year, it will be a game change that has taken place in a local pharmacy with a 10-minute test,” said the Minister of Public Health and Prevention by Ashley Dalton.
This is part of the government’s 10-year health plan, which promised a health service in the neighborhood.
