Diogo Jota dead: Liverpool and Portugal striker die in car accident at the age of 28

The striker Diogo Jota from Liverpool died after a car accident in Portugal at the age of 28.

The crash also reported in the vehicle in the province of Zamora and Jota’s 26-year-old brother Andre, a footballer for FC Penafiel in Portugal.

Jota married the partner Rut Cardoso in Porto two weeks ago. His last Instagram post shows a video from the wedding day with the caption: “We will never forget a day.”

The Portugal International joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers and established itself as a key attack under Jürgen Klopp and most recently the Premier League, the FA Cup and the League Cup in his five -year magic in Angeld.

The Liverpool Football Club has not yet commented on the reports, but Jota’s death was confirmed by Pedro Proenca, head of the Portuguese Football Association.

In an explanation, he said: “The Portuguese football association and the entire Portuguese football are completely destroyed this morning in Spain due to the death of Diogo Jota and André Silva.

“Diogo Jota was much more than an amazing player with almost 50 international caps and was an extraordinary person who was respected by all teammates and opponents, someone with contagious joy and reference in the community itself.

“In my name and in the name of the Portuguese football association, I press the family and the friends of Diogo and André Silva as well as Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the clubs, the players who spoke out the players.

“The Portuguese Football Association asked UEFA this Thursday before the game of our national team with Spain in the women’s European Championship for one minute.

“We have lost two champions. The death of Diogo and Andre Silva represents irreparable losses for Portuguese football, and we will honor everything every day.”

The Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro published on social media: “The news of the death of Diogo Jota, an athlete who honored the name Portugal, and his brother is unexpected and tragic. I extend my deepest condolence to her family. It is a sad day for football and for national and international sports.”

Jota was born in Porto in 1996 and joined the Pacos de Ferreira Youth Setup in 2013 before celebrating his senior debut in autumn 2014.

He first appeared in Portugal’s top division in February 2015 and was the youngest player in his club in the top division. Jota came to Atletico Madrid to the Spanish club in 2016 before moving to the Premier League a year later.

After playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers for two years, he stepped into a team in Liverpool that had just won the Premier League under Jürgen Klopp.
