Money that was pumped into sport by the Lawn Tennis Association, the management committee of British Tennis, “finally started to show results,” he said.

The former Mixed Double Champion Jamie Murray, who is also Andy Murray’s brother, is even safer.

“He is Great Britain’s next tennis superstar. There is no ifs or but.”

The local winners have been scarce since Perry achieved three consecutive wins between 1934 and 36 in the All England Club in southwestern London.

It took six decades before Tim Henman broke into the stage in the nineties and worried some long -awaited sums.

His four semi -final appearances triggered “Henmania” among British fans, but the title finally escaped him.

Murray finally managed to step in Perry’s footsteps a year after she had lost in the final against Roger Federer.
