The researchers sequenced entire genomes of the teeth of a remarkably well -preserved skeleton in a sealed cavalry in an Egyptian tomb of 495 and 4,880 years.
Four five of the genome showed connections to North Africa and the region around Egypt. However, a fifth of the genome showed connections to the area in the Middle East between the rivers Tigris and Euphrates, which are known as the fertile crescent moon, where the Mesopotamian civilization flourished.
“The statement is of great importance” because it is “the first direct evidence of what was indicated in previous work,” said Daniel Antoine, curator of Egypt and Sudan in the British Museum.
Earlier archaeological findings have shown trade connections between Egypt and Mesopotamia as well as similarities in pottery techniques and visual writing systems. While the similarities in dental structures interpreted possible connections to the trunk units, the new study illustrates the genetic ties.

The skeleton was found in an Egyptian grave complex at the archaeological site Nuwayrat in a chamber from a rocky hill. “This is the time when the headquarters made it possible to form ancient Egypt as we know it,” said co-author Linus Girdland-Flink, a paleogenetic part of the University of Aberdeen.

Researchers said that an analysis of other old DNA samples was necessary to obtain a clearer picture of the extent and the time of the movements between the two cultural centers.
